Eternal Sorrow of Lin’an brings the viewer into Yixin Wang’s home, where she performs the song, Eternal Sorrow, on the guzheng – a traditional Chinese musical instrument. Yixin Wang is an alumna from Bard College’s US-China Music Institute. The program supports musical exchange between the United States and China and promotes the study, performance and appreciation of Chinese contemporary music. The video begins seconds before Yixin dives into the piece. Her graceful body movement, hands rising and falling as they manipulate the strings of the guzheng, enhance the musical performance. Her focus is incredible to watch as the song delicately unfolds.
I loved watching Yixin play Eternal Sorrow, though the video itself had some technical shortcomings. The scenes were a bit shaky and I wished that the camera had shown the entire instrument. I was curious as to what the guzheng looked like!
Overall, I would rate this video 4 out of 5 stars.
