We are in candyland as we follow Nick, a less popular candy who loves to dance and who seeks the adoration of Ruth – a popular chocolate bar. Written and directed by 15 jährigen Carter Rostron, this stop motion animated short tells the story of Nick and his pursuit of Ruth, culminating in her recipricotating his affection at the Candy Gala when she finally offers him her hand to dance.
Ruth and Nick; Eine Süßwarengeschichte is unique and charmingly innocent thanks to its candyland setting and simplistic story. The colorful use of candies and eye-catching backgrounds are, meiner Meinung nach, the film’s best elements. The world that Rostron creates around his characters is also clever. Nick is grouped in the Nik-L-Nik pack with the other unpopular candies who are bullied throughout the short, while Ruth (a Baby Ruth) gets to mingle with the Reeses, Twix and Snickers – the well-known more popular brands.
Insgesamt, Ruth and Nick is a satisfying watch with superb animation and an enjoyable family-friendly plot. Ich gebe diesen Film 4 von 5 Sterne.
