Dancing to Connect Despite Isolation

By Veronique Manfredini

کمبود, curated by Battery Dance in collaboration with their German program, رقص برای اتصال, is a short film that focuses on the feeling of isolation caused by the pandemic and the connection created when people collaborate.

کمبود begins with an introduction by the three individuals that made the workshop possible. This was a great way to introduce the dance: an interpretation of the dancers’ emotions and feelings during the pandemic.

The choice of music is interesting and has three different خلق و خوی. The first is a repetitive sound that doesn’t quite fit with the dancing, as if to represent the disconnect between people during quarantine. Then the music speeds up, with movements that feel more like a fight among the dancers, to shift again to a slower melody combined with choreography that makes us feel the connection between the dancers.

The piece is followed by an interview with the directors and participants covering the workshop experience.

به طور کلی, the creative edit of the workshop’s final performance makes it an innovative and interesting short film. با این حال, because the work includes many German voices, having the translation in overlaid captions both in German for the English speakers and English for the German speakers would have been a beneficial addition to the production.
