Tagli di capelli: Un commovente promemoria per riconnettersi

By Alex Abreu

Tagli di capelli by Ethan Thomas is a short film that evokes a simple yet poignant story about adolescence and adulthood. The first time a young adult gains independence is an overwhelming and scary experience.

What comes across clearly in the short film through Thomas’ direction is the initial melancholic tone that gradually transforms into something nostalgic and sweet. It’s a reminder of the importance of connection with one’s family and how it is a basic human need to reconnect every once in a while. The film effectively communicates these emotions through its somber and beautiful soundtrack paired with the thoughtful montage editing style showing the passage of time as the siblings rejoin. Through the editing process we also see the closing of distance between the two siblings, Don and Mia. The film’s color coordination between red and blue also makes for a visually pleasing contrast between the siblings that we see reunite, and could represent a reflection of their current moods. Meaningful moments like the shot of Mia filling in a piece of her jigsaw puzzle after her brother’s phone call is one of many excellent examples of showing, not telling. Moving, elegant, and bittersweet, Tagli di capelli is a powerful and touching short film.

darei questo film 5 stars out of 5.
