Igor, ce qui vous a inspiré pour créer Treinando Pedro, and how did you develop the concept?
Stories about daydreaming kids always touched me. Jojo Rabbit, Moonrise Kingdom, Matilda… So it was natural for me.
Could you share some insights into the casting process for the lead role of Pedro?
Pedro was always based on my cousin Pedro Lucas, making him the natural choice for the role. En outre, my intention was to create a film using everything at my disposal, including a soccer field, my cousins, and an iPhone.
The film beautifully blends inspiration and humor. How did you balance these elements during the filmmaking process?
Pour moi, the best comedy happens as a manifestation of the character’s drama. Every joke must be grounded on Pedro’s story and require attention and a proper place to land.
The unexpected twists in Pedro’s journey add depth. What message do you hope audiences take away from the film?
The overarching message, Je crois, is to never lose your essence. Pedro, despite his constant search for recognition from others, quickly realized the value of knowing who he was and left to continue searching for a place where he could truly belong.
