How is the UK tackling its Net Zero strategyThe UK government has introduced a sustainability and climate change strategy for UK schools, but what do teachers and students think of it?

Em Net Zero Speaks With Lord Jim Knight, climate activist Ali Grutchfield interviews the Right Honorable Lord Jim Knight of Weymouth who works in education, digital technology, and as a legislator. Knight was Chief Education and External Officer at TES Global Ltd and co-founded TES Institute, the fifth largest qualifier of teachers in England. As a UK government minister and MP, Jim was a member of Gordon Brown’s Cabinet before joining the House of Lords after the 2010 Eleições gerais.

Tele Global Search para a Educação is pleased to welcome Ali Grutchfield.

Ali, why did you decide to interview Jim KnightWhat inspired you about him?

I selected Lord Jim Knight of Weymouth to interview because of his presence in the British climate-change education sphere. Much of the media I take in surrounding climate change comes from an American perspective. Portanto, I welcomed the opportunity to hear from an individual who was seeing this critical global issue through a different lens. I wanted to better understand the problem, not just in terms of how it hurts my own life, but from a much broader perspective.

O que mais te surpreendeu na sua entrevista?

I was most surprised that Lord Knight was able to acknowledge both the flaws and strengths of the UK’s government, even after highlighting the rift between their schools of thought. It made me respect him on a much deeper level because opinions that were different from his own were not synonymous with being wrong.

What are the main takeaways for the Net Zero audience from your interview

My interview with Lord Jim Knight left me optimistic about both the future and the collective work of individuals in climate advocacy. My first takeaway was Lord Knight’s ability to criticize the work that has been done so far while remaining forward thinking. Freqüentemente, I find political figures can be complacent in reference to their work. Lord Knight acknowledges the positive movements on climate change that we have seen from within society to date. My takeaway was that Lord Knight believes his work should be in response to societal needs.. He states that the inspiration for his work going forward is driven by the needs of the communities that will be directly affected by the climate crisis..

Thank you Ali!
