جهانی جستجو برای آموزش و پرورش is pleased to welcome Climate Activist Sofia Lana.
Sofia, why did you select this particular climate thought leader to interview? What inspired you about him/her?
Katie is simply an inspiration. She is humble and she’s a fighter. She has been key to making the American situation visible and revealing the reasons for the country’s decisions in the face of climate change.
چه چیزی شما را در مصاحبه خود شگفت زده کرد?
That she focused entirely on the topic of education and how real the problem of Climate Change is. She stayed away from different ideologies and political thoughts.
چه هستند 3 نکات اصلی برای مخاطبان خالص صفر از مصاحبه شما?
If every kid in America was able to receive proper consumer behaviour and environmental knowledge, once they reach adulthood, their consumer decisions, such as buying electric vehicles, buying houses near their jobs, and eating vegan could reduce carbon emissions more effectively than putting solar panels in every house in America.
Education curriculum in America is handled by the individual states. One example that was really interesting was the state of Washington, where the teachers, regardless of the subject they teach, receive specific training about climate change. This helps to achieve the global vision of the issue by permitting educators to relate all topics, not just science or environmental subjects to the climate crisis.
Katie emphasises the fact that youth must be active and take action to get involved in the solutions. Feeling empowered and being part of the change make the climate change transition easier on our brains and reduces our fears and feelings of hopelessness. Yes, the problem is out there but we have to stay positive to the cause and we need to remember that a lot has been done already. We are hopefully not in a world facing a 5-6 degree increase. We are already fighting to achieve 1.5 – 2 degree goals.
Thank you Sofia!
C.M. Rubin and Sofia Lana
