JLove, we really enjoyed this film. Can you tell us what inspired you to create Projeto Universal and showcase 7TRiiiBES? Were there specific motivations that drove you to highlight their work?
I love profoundly deep humans who want to use their talents to better humanity. That’s 7TRiiiBES! I wanted the world to know them, and hear and see their powerful message.
The themes of love, justice, and self-sufficiency are prominently featured in the film. How did you work with the artists to ensure that these messages were effectively conveyed?
They brought that knowledge and passion, and through sitting around having scintillating conversations, we were able to take raw, pure energy and create a super compelling narrative.
The film opens with an artist speaking about the group’s work and messages. Can you discuss the decision to include this introduction and how it sets the tone for the rest of the film?
Once I understood the power of the group’s life philosophy, I thought it would be a missed opportunity to not highlight the breadth and depth of the concept. I thought it would be a cool intro that would allow the audience to have a bit more context moving into the video itself.
Each rapper in 7TRiiiBES brings a unique style and voice to the collective. How did you approach capturing their individuality while also maintaining a cohesive and unified presentation in the film?
Great question! It’s almost like a series of shorts because each of them is so different. If you notice, when each of them rhymes, they have different tangible materials around them, as well as different camera angles. Finalmente, they each got their own narrative story with a beginning, middle, and end. It was a lot of work, but I loved how it came together and honored each member and the collective as a whole.
Thank you JLove!
