Virtual Sculptures by Mimi Garrard and James Seawright is a dynamic and innovative film on the artistic works of Seawright that gave me an entirely new perspective on art! While, over the last decade, more and more artists have sought to take traditional art—like painting—and transform their works through the use of science and technology, this collaboration between Garrard and Seawright has achieved something unique in the field of art.
Each of the eight sections of this film takes you through the experience of a different Seawright sculpture, bringing each one to life through digital design and movement, creating an elevated virtual tour of an art museum. Lovers of the arts will find their attention captured by this film—especially those who enjoy experiences like ASMR, as the sound design behind this film creates a similarly intense, immersive experience. However, this film has no dialogue, which is a double-edged sword; while the lack of speech allows the viewer to focus on the art and digital design (as intended), some narration covering the background of the sculptures would have provided a deeper appreciation.
Fun and expressive, I give Virtual Sculptures 3.5 out of 5 stars.
