Hunter, what inspired the story of the mysterious gate in Beyond the Gate?

I was keen on creating a sci-fi film centred around time travel, which allowed me to showcase the special effects skills I recently learned. Además, the TV show Stranger Things was a major inspiration for me, not only due to its compelling character dynamics but also because of its intriguing exploration of dimension travel. This inspiration fueled my creativity and ambition to craft a unique narrative that engages the audience in a similar way.

How did you craft the film’s eerie atmosphere and sense of suspense?

To craft the film’s eerie atmosphere and build a sense of suspense, I started by establishing a nostalgic mood in the outdoor scenes at the beginning of the film. This was achieved through the use of natural elements and a warm color palette. Sin embargo, as the story progresses and the characters enter the school setting, the atmosphere gradually shifts, becoming darker and more suspenseful. This transition is shown by changes in lighting and color tones. Finalmente, when the characters are transported into a different universe, I wanted the environment to reflect their altered reality. To achieve this, I used predominantly red hues in the surrounding nature to evoke an otherworldly and unsettling feeling, enhancing the tension and mystery of the narrative.

Can you share the symbolic meaning behind the protagonist’s journey?

The protagonist’s journey symbolically represents the themes of bravery and leadership. Throughout the short film, the protagonist encounters challenges that test his courage and decision-making abilities. These experiences serve as metaphors for personal growth and the development of leadership qualities. By stepping out of his comfort zone and facing the unknown, the protagonist learns the importance of taking initiative, demonstrating true bravery.

How do you hope viewers interpret the film’s ambiguous ending?

I hope the film’s ambiguous ending encourages viewers to engage their imaginations and think about the next steps around the mysteries surrounding the abandoned school and the universe the characters have time-travelled to. My intention is to leave audiences contemplating the possibilities and outcomes, fostering discussions and individual interpretations of the truth behind the narrative. By leaving certain elements open-ended, I aim to spark curiosity and invite viewers to explore their own theories and conclusions.

Gracias, Hunter
