Mimi, what inspired you to combine psychedelic visuals with dance in Causa Sui?
I have been working in dance for video since 2001. 隨著時間的推移, the backgrounds have become more and more important to me. How did Joao Castro Pinto’s music influence the choreography and visual design?
Joao Castro Pinto wrote the music with the idea of Causa Sui, or self-causing. He is very interested in philosophy, and his music always has some philosophical intent. I created the visuals with the music as inspiration.
Through the short video, there are several instances where the actors are digitally replicated to make it seem as though they’re dancing with themselves. What inspired this choice?
Duplicating the dancers adds to the dynamics of the piece.
Why was it important for you to tell this particular story in this medium as opposed to a more traditional stage performance? What has been the audience feedback?
With video, it is easy to create a magical space. This work has been very popular with festivals and has won many first-place awards worldwide.
